* Note: We no longer hold a hosting account with TMD Hosting as for now.
When TMDHosting opened its doors in 2007, it had a single data center in Houston, Texas, but now, it has four centers in the United States. Along with the Houston center, it has two in Illinois and one in Arizona. It’s also expanded overseas with a data center in Amsterdam.
TMDHosting is widely known for its support staff. It has technical support specialists, system administrators, designers and developers, marketers, and customer care reps on staff. According to the company, it uses the large staff to provide the best in customer care while developing an innovative hosting environment.
I wanted to see if TMDHosting lives up to the hype, so I took the test account provided by the company. I’ve been tracking my account since Jan. 31, 2016, and I’m going to share what I’ve learned with you.
TMD Hosting Plans
TMDHosting has a lot of hosting options – shared, reseller, VPS cloud, and dedicated.
The two fully managed shared hosting plans (named Amazing and Unlimited) offer more or less the same features like most other shared hosting services – unlimited storage and bandwidth, 24x7x365 customer support, free SSH access, and Softaculous auto-installer. The main difference between the two is the number of sites you get to host – for Amazing, you can only host one website; whereas unlimited sites can be added to the Unlimited Plan.
If you’re interested in reseller hosting, you’ll get three packages to choose from with TMDHosting. They range from 65 GB to 200 GB of storage and 700 GB to 2,000 GB of bandwidth. They all include unlimited domains, support, and WHM/cPanel access.
TMD Hosting has five VPS plans. Plans range from two to eight CPU cores and 2 GB to 6 GB of DDR4 RAM. Select between 40 GB and 150 GB of SSD space with these plans.
|Features ||VPS 1 ||VPS 2 ||VPS 3 ||VPS 4 ||VPS 5 |
|SSD Storage ||40 GB ||60 GB ||80 GB ||120 GB ||150 GB |
|Bandwidth ||3000 GB ||4000 GB ||5000 GB ||5000 GB ||7000 GB |
|DDR4 RAM ||2 GB ||3 GB ||4 GB ||4 GB ||6 GB |
|Price ||$39.95/mo ||$53.95/mo ||$71.95/mo ||$98.95/mo ||$116.95/mo |
It also has three cloud hosting plans available. They all include unlimited domains, free domain names, free SSH access, and free premium support. Choose between packages with 50 GB to 85 GB of SSD storage.
|Features ||Summer Cloud ||Rain Cloud ||Storm Cloud |
|SSD Storage ||50 GB ||65 GB ||85 GB |
|Bandwidth ||3000 GB ||4000 GB ||5000 GB |
|DDR4 RAM ||3 GB ||3 GB ||4 GB |
|Price ||$49.95/mo ||$69.95/mo ||$89.95/mo |
Finally, you can go with a dedicated server package. The four packages provide 500 GB all the way up to 2 TB of storage and 8 GB to 24 GB of RAM. They all include 10 TB of bandwidth.
Now that you know what packages the company has to offer, let’s take a look at what I found during my test.
TMD’s Cloud vs VPS Hosting
I asked TMDHosting sales agent about the difference between their Cloud and VPS Hosting plans. The following is the answer he gave –
Help me choose between your cloud and vps plans – how are these two difference?
“The Cloud solutions we offer are suitable for medium sized websites, they use lots of servers to produce a large “cloud” of computing power. In this cloud, a virtual container is created and this container is similar to a VPS, with the difference that it is quite harder for it to go down, mainly due to the structure of the computing cloud itself.” – TMDHosting Sales Agent, Todd Carter
My takeaway: If scalability is not a big issue (assuming that your site will not get a sudden spike in traffic), take VPS Plan instead to save money.
Things I Like about TMDHosting
Blazing fast web host
There is a lot to like about TMD Hosting as a cheap hosting solution, starting with the blazing fast speed. I ran a speed test, and it scored an A, with speeds ranging from 52 ms in the U.S. to 493 ms in Sao Paulo.
Very reliable server
Reliability is really important, which is another reason I like TMD Hosting. See for yourself – the following are the uptime data we recorded using Uptime Robot.
Affordable price – not the cheapest, but reasonable
The company’s pricing is good. Shared hosting starts at $2.85 per month, which is a steal in my opinion. It also offers a 60-day money-back guarantee, which is a full 30 days longer than the industry standard.
Check out how TMD’s price stack up with others in the following table –
||Price (Similar Plans)
*All prices were checked on date of review. Please refer to official sites for most accurate info.
Note that at this time of writing, TMDHosting is charging the same price, ie. $140.40 for 2 years of Unlimited Plan (the same price when you signup) but it is stated clearly that the company reserve the rights to revised the prices periodically –
The Customer should pay the applicable amount at the time of registration/renewal date. The Company has the right to change the prices periodically and The Customer will be charged on the new applicable taxes for the next billing cycle. Exceptions apply in case that a Customer or group of such have written arrangement with The Company’s Billing Department.
Responsive customer support
The customer support is great. The company states that it strives to offer the best support, and it doesn’t disappoint. There is a 24/7 chat system available. I know that a lot of companies have these systems in place, but they don’t work, so I tried it on two different occasions. I received a fast response both times.
I also like how this company handles people with existing websites. You can transfer web files and databases over for free. The staff even helps you with the tedious task if you want, which is rare.
Features, features, and more features
TMDHosting also has above-market features, such as SSD storage, free daily backups and restoration, choice of three different server locations, and spam protection by SpamExperts. These are even more impressive when you consider the low price.
Important to know
It’s rare that I can say this, but I didn’t find anything I didn’t like about TMDHosting. From the price to the features, TMD hit it out of the ballpark.
You do need to realize that unlimited hosting does have restrictions, which is the case with all hosting companies. Quoting TMD’s terms –
Disk space and Traffic Usage
The Customer understands that the terms “unlimited” and “unmetered” are defined by experience gained by The Company with similarly situated customers or measured by the industrials standards and the average resource usage of a shared hosting account located on the same server.
The Customer understands and agrees that an account cannot use more than 175 000 per account. Accounts that slightly exceed the inode limits are unlikely to be suspended, however, accounts that are constantly creating and delete large numbers of files on a regular basis, have hundreds of thousands of files, or cause file system damage may be flagged for review and/or suspension. Every single file or folder on The Customer’s account is counted as 1 inode unit.
Script executions/Average execution time
The account owned by The Customer is allowed to use up to 24,000 CPU seconds for any given calendar day. The account owned by The Customer is allowed to use up to 2,000 CPU seconds for any given hour of the day. CPU time is considered the amount of time (measured in seconds) that an application is using while processing CPU instructions.
In layman term, it means that you can’t host more than 175,000 inodes on your TMD shared account or use more than 24,000 CPU seconds per day. You can also only use 2,000 CPU seconds per hour. While the limitation is something you should know; you should also know this is very generous, and you shouldn’t have a problem with it.
Bottom Line: It’s a YES!
No doubt about this – I highly recommend TMD Hosting for all websites. It is affordable, full of features, fast, and reliable. In other words, it provides the service you need to get the job done.
