DreamHost got its start back in 1997 in a college dorm room where a group of four technology-loving friends came together to produce an open-source technology that would help individuals and business owners better connect on the web. Today, DreamHost has moved out of the dorm room and into offices in San Diego. It now helps over 400,000 customers host close to 1.5 million websites. DreamHost, in short, is a great web host. Our interviewee gave DH a 4 on a scale of 1-5 rating but I personally think DreamHost is better than that. Read on to find out more.
DreamHost got its start back in 1997 in a college dorm room. A group of four technology-loving friends came together to produce an open-source technology that would help individuals and business owners better connect on the web.

What's in the package? DreamHost Hosting Plans
DreamHost offers a range of hosting plans to serve everything from individual blogs to complex, high-traffic corporate websites.
All hosting plans come with a custom auto-installer, automated malware monitoring and remediation tools, CloudFlare integration, and a 100% uptime guarantee. Yes – DreamHost guarantees 100% uptime in its TOS. We will dig into this later but first let's have a look on DreamHost's hosting plan.
DreamHost’s Shared Hosting Plan starts at $9.95 $7.87 per month (see our special discount). With this plan, your website will be hosted on solid state drives (SSDs). The plan includes one free domain name and offers unlimited storage and bandwidth.
This option is ideal for simple sites without tons of traffic, including blogs, portfolios, small business sites, personal sites, and database-driven sites.
Managed WordPress Hosting (Dream Press 2)
At $19.95 per month, this is the ideal option for those who are searching for a comprehensive, WordPress-optimized hosting.
The plan includes hosting in virtual private servers with 30 GB of SSD storage, PHP 5.5 with OpCache and optional HHVM, automatic WordPress installation, and core updates. One of the main perks of this plan is that you will get 24/7 WordPress-related support from DreamHost experts via live chat, Twitter, or email on any WordPress theme or plugins.
Virtual Private Servers
Starting at $15 per month, this option is ideal for businesses, e-commerce sites, designers, and developers that are looking for a powerful, fast, and stable option to run websites and web applications that receive a significant amount of traffic. DreamHost’s virtual private server hosting services come in four different sizes. All offer unlimited bandwidth, unlimited domains, IPv6, 24/7 network support, and 100 percent network uptime.
All of DreamHost’s dedicated servers boast up to 1 TB of storage for all of your files, server-grade CPU, full root access, multi-core processors, automatic managed backups, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited 24/7 support. For $169 per month, you will receive 4 GB of RAM; for $209 per month, you will receive 8 GB of RAM; and for $249 per month, you will receive 16 GB of RAM. All dedicated server hosting plans are billed monthly, so there is no ongoing commitment.

There are a few things I like about DreamHost – that made DreamHost different than others.
100% Uptime Guarantee
There are two things I like about
If you dig into DreamHost's TOS, you will find something that you normally don't see with most other hosting providers – 100% uptime guarantee written in simple, crystal clear English. No additional rules in small text, no dozen of if-else cases on the guarantee.
DreamHost guarantees 100% uptime. A failure to provide 100% uptime will result in customer compensation pursuant to guidelines established herein.
Customer is entitled to compensation if Customer's web site, databases, email, FTP, SSH or webmail become unusable as a result of failure(s) in DreamHost systems for reasons other than previously announced scheduled maintenance, coding or configuration errors on the part of the Customer.
Customer will receive DreamHost credit equal to the Customer's current hosting cost for 1 (one) day of service for each 1 (one) hour (or fraction thereof) of service interruption, up to a maximum of 10% of customer's next pre-paid hosting renewal fee.
97 Days Full Refund Trial Period
DreamHost has the longest full refund trial period I have ever seen. The hosting company is so confident that customers will love their hosting service that if you cancel within the first 97 days, the company will refund your money in full (minus domain registration fees).
SSD hosting = faster database queries and faster caching overall.
DreamHost User Experience
Now here comes the most important part of our DreamHost Review – Is DreamHost good for you? To answer the question, we work with DreamHost user, Taylor Marsden from Our Mini Life (site is unavailable now, we are looking for new user review who hosts at Dream Host), to share her experience with us. The following sections (on pros & cons and bottom line) are fully written by Taylor. I found Taylor via a popular blogger jobboard (unrelated to DreamHost at all) and have verified that her site is currently hosted with DreamHost.
Here goes Taylor.
Quick background story
I’ll be upfront: I don’t know a TON about web hosting. So, when it came time to choose the best web host for my WordPress travel blog, I turned to Google for help. A lot of people online raved about DreamHost being a great option, and after reading about the one-click install for WP, I was sold on what seemed like a super simple way to transfer over all of the data from my former free blog.
Pros: Simple, Reasonable Price, Great Support
I bought the cheapest package they offered ($15 bucks a month), went through the easy hosting install for WordPress in just a few clicks, and five months later I still feel pretty satisfied with the choice. What do I like the most about DreamHost? Summed up in three words – simple, price and helpful.
Being a writer and not a technical person, I need something that isn’t overly complicated. I want to be able to set up quickly and figure out things on my own should any changes to my account need to be made. DH meets all of these requirements (and has since day one of using their services).
After checking around online, I realized pretty quickly that DreamHost’s pricing is the most reasonable for what’s offered. While other providers charge $20 and above for the most basic of hosting packages, DH offers one at around $15 a month – great for people who don’t need anything too fancy and are on a budget.
Finally, I want helpful customer service! There’s nothing worse than encountering an issue and then waiting forever for someone to get back to you about how to fix it. Every time I’ve come across a problem and needed help, the DreamHost customer service team has gotten back to me with a solution in just a matter of hours. Plus, the team members I’ve spoken with are polite in all of their email correspondences and clear in their explanations. Win!
Cons: No discount for repeat customer, confusing dashboard
But of course, DreamHost isn’t totally perfect. I definitely take issue with how the dashboard is laid out (a little confusing for the average user and honestly just straight up ugly). The other bone I have to pick with them is pricing on multiple hosting packages. I went to host another of my domains with them the other day and there was no discount to be found. Not trying to sound like a total cheapskate here, but shouldn’t loyal customers get a deal?
On a scale of 1 – 5 I’d give these guys a 4. They’re not a perfect hosting service, but I’ve yet to find any that’s worthy of a totally stellar review.
Bottom line: if you’re a WordPress blogger looking for an easy host provider that’s inexpensive and offers quality customer service – DreamHost is your best bet.
