RoseHosting Review

Company: Rose Web Services LLC

Background: Founded in 2001, RoseHosting hails from the South of the US in St. Louis, Missouri. The location is also where it operates its own data center. The company claims that RoseHosting.com was the first and only web hosting company to offer commercial Linux virtual servers back when they commenced operations. Working under the umbrella of Rose Web Services LLC, the company today offers a broad range of services. These include web hosting, web tools, and domain names. Rose Hosting focuses on quality over quantity, hence their attention toward the VPS and Cloud hosting segments.

Review Summary & Ratings

4

There are plenty of hosting providers to choose from, but it's hard to find one with a longer history than RoseHosting. Notably, RoseHosting is a Linux-only hosting organization specializing in VPS hosting (though the company now also offers other varieties). They seem highly adept at offering an entry step towards better hosting solutions for those starting to look beyond basic web hosting options.

My Experience with RoseHosting

Iโ€™ve tested RoseHostingโ€™s offerings since November of 2013, and in that time, Iโ€™ve found lots of good and not much bad โ€“ a rarity for both me and the hosting world in general. Read on as I share my experience with this hosting company.

The Pros: What I Like About RoseHosting?

1. Fast and Reliable Hosting

As a whole, RoseHosting is an excellent web host maintaining remarkable uptime and site speeds. Its overall uptime record is 99.99%, while maximum site response time hovers at around 300 ms.

Compared to other web hosts that I have tracked, the site response time is notable. The average response time of my other basic WordPress dormant blogs ranges from 1,500 to 2,000 ms โ€“ in contrast, RoseHosting is nothing shy of five times as fast!

Recent speed test (May 2018) shows test site hosted at RoseHosting is loading quick (TTFB rating = A).

2. Their No-overselling Policy is Commendable

The usual practice in web hosting is to pack as many customers onto each server as possible. They sell more resources than are available on the premise that not all customers will fully utilize their hosting packages. It's a practice known as “overselling” and generally works – most of the time.

Because of this, many hosting companies claim to offer more storage or bandwidth than they actually can deliver. Meanwhile, RoseHosting has created a – no overselling policy for all its web hosting products and services. Unlike many other companies, they do not advertise more storage and bandwidth than they have on their servers.

3. RoseHosting Keeps Things In-house

A big part of what sets RoseHosting apart from most other Web hosting providers is that its servers are self-managed. Rather than rent part of data center blocks, it maintains a private data center fully built and configured for its needs.

The company says this approach allows them to provide amazing support and maintain the excellent performance of customers' websites. That data center will grow with its customer base. It allows them to maximize profits without sacrificing quality for their customers.

This customer-centric approach helps the company grow without taking on any venture capital or outside funding.

4. Enterprise-grade NVMe Storage

Instead of a tiered approach that only offers excellent equipment to the highest-paying customers, RoseHosting levels the playing field. Even on the cheapest shared hosting plans, all customers operate on enterprise-grade NVMe storage.

These storage drives offer far better performance than traditional drives. Speeds are typically more than ten times faster comparatively. In addition, enterprise-grade drives are extremely robust, leading to much lower instances of hardware failure.

5. Shocking 100% Uptime Guarantee in the SLA

Again, RoseHosting goes the whole mile to offer a 100% uptime guarantee, as spelled out in their Service Level Agreement (SLA). Since they control the data center, they can ensure the finest performance to meet this requirement.

If your website fails due to any fault on the part of their equipment, RoseHosting will credit your account with ten times the downtime hours in credit. Naturally, this doesnโ€™t include downtime due to unavoidable maintenance cycles.

Those using RoseHostingโ€™s dedicated servers are assured of replacements for faulty hardware within two hours of fault detection.

The Cons: RoseHosting Drawbacks and Disadvantages

Like any other web hosting provider, RoseHosting has some downsides. Honestly, however, I found this to be partially due to the way the business works and not any key failure on their part.

1. Limited Server Hosting Locations

Because of their self-operated policy on data centers, RoseHosting only offers a single location at their home base of Missouri, USA. While that is excellent news for website owners with traffic originating within the country, itโ€™s less helpful for international customers.

Given the data latency from the US to most of Asia, RoseHosting is essentially alienating half the globe. While they could resolve this with an overseas data center partnership, that would likely mean lower standards beyond their control.

2. Lack of Specialized Support Services

RoseHosting focuses mainly on web hosting core competencies. Because of that, customers will need to look elsewhere for associated services. For example, a business might need marketing capabilities, SEO consultancy or tools, and would need to externally source all of these things.

While itโ€™s good that the company is focused, it does mean not being a โ€œone-stop-shopโ€ that some customers look for.

3. Low Resource Allocation

You canโ€™t have things all your way, and the โ€œno oversellingโ€ policy of RoseHosting comes with a disadvantage. Compared with the industry average, the resources provided on their plans are shockingly low.

For example, the cheapest shared hosting plan here comes with a mere 4GB of storage space and 300GB bandwidth per month. Most shared hosting providers will limit resources on the cheapest plans – but certainly not to this extent.

RoseHosting Plans and Pricing

As expected from RoseHosting, youโ€™ll encounter a handful of shared hosting plans and a multitude of VPS options. The latter is highly granular, and thereโ€™s likely something for everyone.

RoseHosting Shared Hosting

There are three shared hosting plans available with minimal resources. Thatโ€™s especially true in storage space, with the cheapest plan sporting a mere 4GB. While the storage space is fast, the quantity leaves a lot to be desired.

Alternatives to RoseHosting

Compare RoseHosting vs Bluehost

RoseHosting and Bluehost donโ€™t exactly compete in the same space. However, both brands are known to offer exceptional quality.

While on paper Bluehost seems comparatively superior you should look beyond that if you demand the best quality. RoseHosting support and equipment are far superior to most competitors.

Compare RoseHosting vs HostGator

The comparison of RoseHosting and HostGator is an excellent opportunity to showcase two ends of the spectrum. One speclialized in quality while the other is determined to kill all competitors at point of pricing.

HostGator is a great step into the world of hosting for newbies. Itโ€™s cheap and so accessible, but quality-wise, isnโ€™t such a great choice. At least compared to RoseHosting.

Frequently Asked Questions on RoseHosting

Is RoseHosting good?

RoseHosting is an excellent service that offers a reasonable step towards better quality. While the brand specializes in VPS hosting, they have shared hosting plans built to impress. The one key shortcoming is a slight lack of resources on cheaper plans.

Is RoseHosting good for beginners?

I would recommend RoseHosting for those with some experience and seeking quality over the basics. While itโ€™s still newbie-friendly, not many new users will be able to accept the higher-than-average pricing at RoseHosting.

Is RoseHosting OK for shared hosting?

Entry-level shared hosting plans at RoseHosting are excellent but do cost more than typically available at other hosts. If youโ€™re looking for fast and stable performance, their shared hosting plans are fantastic.

How reliable is RoseHosting?

RoseHosting is highly reliable. They promise 100% uptime as spelled out in their SLA, which is a substantial advantage. This reliability extends across its entire product range, from shared hosting to dedicated servers.

Is RoseHosting VPS good?

RoseHostingโ€™s chief VPS advantage is the broad range of plans available in that category. While most VPS is scalable, this structure by RoseHosting makes it more straightforward for users. Once you exceed point X, you can simply shift towards dedicated servers.

Final Thoughts For My RoseHosting Review

At the end of the day, hosting stability and speed are what matters the most. And RoseHosting did exceptionally well in that region. Hence, I recommend RoseHosting to organizations or individuals looking for a solid hosting solution with strict no-oversell rules.
