Not long after Lunarpages unlimited hosting offer, Hostgator – one of my favorite hosting, has upgraded its shared hosting plans to offer unlimited storage space and bandwidth in late October. With this change, there will be no space and bandwidth restrictions on any Hostgator hosting accounts (both new and existing).
Also, it’s worth noting that the hosting company has begun offering SSL certificates with “select shared plans”.
In a quick view, here’re Hostgator latest hosting plan details.
I can’t draw any solid conclusion on Hostgator’s upgrades at current moment. At first look the upgraded plan is offering better hosting features for the same old price (good news!).
On the other hand I’m worry that the sudden surge in hosting account sign up will affect my current hosting account with Hostgator. Read this (quoted from a recent interview with Brent Oxley, HostGator’s CEO and founder):
These upgrades represent part of a series of moves by HostGator to become the world-leading provider of shared, reseller, and dedicated web hosting. The company is expecting a 20% sales increase as a result of the plan upgrades.
Some questions remained unanswered: Does this means that I’ll need to share my hosting resources (such as RAM and processor power) with more websites by now? Will Hostgator upgrades their servers and equipments in conjunction with this upgrades?
Anyhow, Hostgator had been treating their customers right for all these years and their hosting facilities are always in topnotch condition. Though doubtful, I’m confident with the company in securing their current customers while expanding their business.
